Guardian Family Pet Partnerships

At Mystic Maltaliers we believe that first and foremost dogs are family members. Both the Cavalier and Maltese breed were developed as companion dogs and it would not be right for them to live their lives in breeding kennels.

Dogs that live in breeding kennels often don’t have adequate knowledge and familiarity of things associated with living in a home – vacuum cleaners, music, TV’s, children, yelling and other sounds. Different floor surfaces, furniture and what’s acceptable behaviour for a dog living as part of the family.

This lack of socialisation  means they are ill equipped to prepare their puppies for life in a home environment being unfamiliar with it and probably experiencing a level of discomfort with it themselves.

That is the primary reason we have elected for our breeding dogs to be family dogs in family homes. This way they live a happy and fulfilled life and give and receive love and joy with their families.

It also provides a family with an opportunity to have and raise a family pet without having to expend the full value that the majority of puppies now command.

Our guardian families will take one of our puppies as a loved member of their family and pay a fee of $1000, entering into a contract with us for a fixed length of time, usually concluding in the dogs 5th year.

We will ask that they be fed a premium diet to ensure they grow up healthy and that they are well socialised and trained to a basic level and that they are kept up to date on vaccinations, worming, flea treatment, and groomed regularly.

Between 12 months and 5 years, we will require them for breeding and they will need to come and stay with us for a few days “honeymoon” on occasion. Girls will need to come and stay while they give birth to, and raise their puppies and will then return to their families.

At the conclusion of their optimum breeding period, they will be desexed at our cost and live out the rest of their lives with their family.

It might not be the right scenario for everyone. Have a look through our contract before deciding whether it’s right for your family
